Therapeutic Effects Psychodrama on Nursing Students

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate therapeutic effect after performing the psychodrama as self-understanding and empathy enhancement program for the nursing students. Fifty-four students who volunteered to participate in this program were divided into 3 groups with one professional each; in order to determine the factors which improves self-understanding and empathy, Heo¡¯s(2011) Psychodrama treatment factor measurement was used. The study method was a single group pre-and post-experiment design, and data was analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program. Significant difference was shown in participants in the study regarding 5 sub-factors under Psychodrama treatment factor; however, there was a noticeable difference only in self-expansion for those who have experiences with psychodrama. Regardless of having clinical experience, psychodrama treatment effect was statistically significant in all first, second, and third grade students. Therefore, it was found that the self-understanding and empathy enhancement program using psychodrama in nursing students was effective in improving emotional purification and need satisfaction, increasing new understanding, promoting group atmosphere and interaction, vitality and self-expansion. However, due to that fact that this is the study of single-group experiment design, it cannot be generalized to all nursing students in other universities.
